Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common autoimmune inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. The cause of multiple sclerosis (MS) remains unknown. The most widely accepted theory is that MS is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder mediated by autoreactive T-cells directed against components of myelin, which serves as the major outside cover for the nerves. Currently, medical treatment can be very helpful in delaying the onset of relapse of MS symptoms, but side effects sometimes are difficult to tolerate. Some people do not like the ideas of injecting themselves all the time.

Acupuncture has been helpful in maintaining good health for MS patients by keeping their energy up, boosting the immunity, and minimizing side effects from medication. By regulating the body’s immunity, acupuncture may help slow down the attacks of T cells on myelin. Detoxification points used in acupuncture can also help reducing side effects of medication. But regulating the body’s energy and helping patients better dealing with the neurological damages caused by MS, acupuncture can be wonderful adjunct to western therapy.
